Student Absences
Email admin@newlandsprimary.school.nz, phone 04 461 6900, or text 027 261 6901 the school before 9:00am and advise us of your child’s name, room number, and the reason for the absence.
If it is a planned absence (ie holiday) the school needs to be notified in advance in writing. This can be emailed to the school office: admin@newlandsprimary.school.nz
Student Lateness
If your child arrives after the 8:55am bell, they must sign in at the school office before going to their class.
It is very important that the school is advised of any changes to caregiver contact details.
Please note that if you have an answerphone facility, it is your responsibility to check in case the school has been trying to contact you.
School’s Responsibility
Newlands Primary School uses the following procedure to follow up on absent students:
- The electronic attendance register is marked within the first 10 minutes after school starts at 8:55am.
- Names of children not present are recorded electronically.
- Those children’s names that are recorded will be checked against reported absences.
The school will contact parents of absent children in the following order:
1. text to mobile phone
2. home phone
3. work phone
The school will make every effort to make contact with the parents/caregivers, but if we are not able to talk to you it will be noted that contact has been tried and no contact was made.
If there is no reply to any number and there is an answerphone, a message will be left for you to make contact with the school.
