Welcome to Newlands Primary School

Our school vision is: Nurture, Learn, Succeed - Together. We provide opportunities that nurture the hauora (wellbeing) and learning of our tamariki (students) to enable them to work together as successful Newlands Citizens.

Our kura was established in 1906 and the first permanent classroom was opened in 1920. We currently have over 300 students across 14 classrooms, from Years 0 to 6.

Newlands Primary School students come from a wide range of socio economic and cultural backgrounds. There are over 25 ethnicities represented in our school community (data based on MOE ethnicity categories). This includes: 38% NZ Euro/Pakeha, 22% Indian, 8% Maori, 4% Chinese, 3% Cambodian, 3% Sri Lankan, 1% African and 5% Pasifika. 

NPS has a strong focus on connecting with Māori, Pasifika, and all families, ensuring we continue to build and strengthen partnerships with whānau. We work in partnership with Te Korowai o Horokiwi, our local cluster of six schools, strengthening our professional development, and ensuring cohesive transition from primary school to intermediate.

Scooter Tuesday

Every Tuesday students are invited to bring their scooters to school (along with a well fitted helmet and appropriate footwear), and they are taken to Pukehuia Park at lunchtime for wheels fun. When not in use, scooters hang on the fence by the turf.

Wonder Workshops

Te Pihi and Te Kōhuri have the opportunity to learn new and interesting topics with Wonder Workshops. Previous workshops have included art, sewing, photography, music, languages, and culture.

Discovery Time

Te Kākano enjoy Discovery Time every Thursday afternoon. Students participate in a range of hands-on activities where they can explore  their curiosities and wonderings. They will learn through play, by asking questions and sharing their ideas with others. 

Activities

We offer many sports opportunities for our students who fully participate in kura events, along with Northern Zone and Interzone competitions. Year 3-6 students are invited to play team sports such as miniball and netball, as well as a large number of students participating in chess club!

We have a great online system called the Caregiver Portal. The Caregiver Portal allows you to see what items are due for payment and make payment by either internet banking or credit card. Once you are logged into the Caregiver Portal, you can also download the Edge App. This is an alternate way to advise absences and make payments, along with accessing general information about your child.
